Your New Obsession: The Hirshleifers
Periodically, I delete and re-download TikTok. Not to sound crass, but I absolutely love the app. As well as style inspiration, it acts as a way for my younger sister (who lives in London) and I to remain in constant communication. We are perpetually tagging each other in videos about our parents, ex-boyfriends and London. However, I also use the app because I am obsessed with the Hirshleifers.
Marci and Lori Hirshleifer are members of a luxury clothing retail dynasty. For over 100 years, their family-run store Hirshleifer’s has held the status as a global luxury mecca. Although it once carried a select few high-end brands and traditional womenswear, they now have over 100 designers including Chanel, Balenciaga, Kith, and Saint Laurent. They have a bustling and burgeoning e-commerce platform and a strong and developing international presence.
Marci and Lori have started styling clothing and showing their outfits and amazing jewelry on TikTok and have perfectly captivated Gen-Z’s fleeting attention and attraction to anything fun, stylish, and over the top. They are effortlessly cool, chic and badass.
Although, Marci and Lori’s style is very high-brow and most definitely not super affordable as a college student.
Here I have provided some key takeaways that are affordable and transcendent:
Stacking
Often and always. Your jewelry should be like second-skin. Keep it on. Wear it well. Play around.
More is more
Fun nails. Fun rings. Fun bags. Charms galore.
Use a bag as a bright pop of color
Then, take that colorful bag and add a keychain. Then add three more. Then, maybe… one more. In true Jane Birken fashion, accessorize your accessories.
A plain white tee shirt and a great pair of jeans go a long way
This is just cool.
Sneakers should be cool, casual, and lowkey
A great pair of Adidas will do the trick.
Ballet flats
Should be the opposite.
I feel like the golden rule that I have taken after observing their style is: that your clothes should be plain, casual, and effortless and your accessories should be the opposite.
